A corporate leader with almost 30 years of experience and had served several companies from a global financial institution to a Development Financial Institution (DFI), in multiple portfolios, of which 16 years were in leadership positions.
Is a seasoned Islamic and conventional banker who was previously attached to Pelaburan MARA, a statutory agency of the Government of Malaysia and presently is the President / CEO of Bank Pertanian Malaysia Berhad (Agrobank) effective from 3rd January 2022.
As the P/CEO of Agrobank, he is playing a vital role in charting the growth and development of Malaysia’s agriculture industry by offering shariah compliant products and solutions across various customer segments including micro, small, medium, and large retail, and business customers, with a primary focus on strengthening the agriculture sector in Malaysia, by striking an equal balance to its developmental and commercial roles to benefit the agriculture sector.
In his eight years with the financial services group and asset management outfit of MARA, Tengku Ahmad was appointed as the acting CEO. He was first the CEO of PMB Tijari (Pelaburan MARA’s subsidiary which focused on Shariah-complaint financial solutions), Director of Sales for PMB Investment (asset management) and later promoted to COO of Pelaburan MARA.
Started his career with HSBC in 1993 and was selected to undertake several leadership development programmes both regionally and nationally during his time in HSBC. In his leadership roles with HSBC and Kuwait Finance House, he was tasked with growing revenue contributions from Wholesale Banking and Markets businesses, and it has exposed him in retail and commercial banking, for both Islamic and non-Islamic offerings, which have allowed him to understand the various demographics in Malaysia.
In these respective capacities, he has been an instrumental contributor towards the growth of the Islamic banking and finance industry in Malaysia.
Has been appointed as the Vice Chairman of the Association of National Development Finance Institutions in Member Countries of the Islamic Development Bank (ADFIMI) on 2 June 2022 and he is currently serving as the board member of Lembaga Kemajuan Pertanian Kemubu (KADA).
Is also serving on committees of non-profit organisations:
as the MajorRegiment 506W (JAKPAW);
Deputy President of ASEAN Chess Confederation; Deputy President of Malaysia Chess Federation; and
Committee Member of Malaysia-Qatar Business Council. (Honorary) Brigade 8;
Sat on Dolphin International Berhad, a public listed company on Bursa Saham Kuala Lumpur (BSKL) as a Non-Executive Chairman and had served several directorship roles in NetX Holdings Berhad, Fintech Global Berhad, D’Nonce Technology Berhad, PDZ Holdings Berhad and Seacera Group Berhad.
Holds a Bachelor of Law, LLB (Hons) from University of East Anglia, Norwich, England in 1992 and attended several programmes such as Executive Leadership Program at Cornell University, US in 2012 as well as Islamic Finance Leadership Program at Clare College, Cambridge University, UK in 2017.
Also, a professional fellow member qualification of Institute of Corporate Directors Malaysia (ICDM).
