INTRODUCTION
Ergonomics related injuries are quite common in the workplaces, affecting workers in all types of industry. Common injuries are related to lower back, neck, shoulders, hands, knees and feet. These injuries affecting workers’ abilities to perform works, high medical costs and adverse to productivity. Main root causes for these injuries are poor methods of working, poor work habits as well of substandard design of workplaces. In response, the Department of OSH (DOSH) has produced ERA Guidelines in 2017. Feedback from DOSH indicates that soon Initial ERA will become compulsory and DOSH strongly encourages employers to have Ergonomics Trained Person (ETP) to implement Initial ERA.
This training provides awareness on physical ergonomics in the workplaces and method to perform initial ERA. The focus will be on important of ergonomics, ergonomics risk factors, musculoskeletal disorders and ERA process. Participants are guided on how to do walkthrough, body symptoms survey, prescribed methods on how to detect ergonomics risk factors according to work activities and reporting method.
 
OBJECTIVES
On successful completion of this module, attendees should be able to:
1. Understand ergonomics need in the workplace and how it is
related to the OSH Act 1994;
2. Perform initial ERA;
3. Generate initial ERA report in compliance with DOSH ERA
Guidelines 2017; and
4. Train and communicate ergonomics to workers

Personnel administering safety and health of the company such as Human Resource, members of OSH committee, SHOs, OHNs, OHDs, Safety Assistants, Supervisors, Executives, Engineers, Managers and higher-level executives
 
 
Trainer
DR JALALUDDIN BIN DAHLAN, a doctorate degree holder in Industrial Engineering & Ergonomics - Wichita State University. An Ergonomist & OSH practitioner by profession with vast experiences in the field of Ergonomics and Industrial Engineering. He serves as ergonomics consultant in the USA in the airlines industry, hospitals and research centres. He was the Ergonomics Division Manager in NIOSH Malaysia for 6 years and conducted various ergonomics training and consultation services all over the nation. He assisted the Department of Occupational Safety and Health to published the first Guidelines on Ergonomics for Standing at Work and trained DOSH personnel in the area of ergonomics and serves as consultant to DOSH. Among his areas of interest and expertise include; back injury and musculoskeletal prevention program, office ergonomics and computer work, back-towork program and mental stresses.
 
MUHAMMAD NAZRIN DESA, holds a B.Eng. (Hons.) in Manufacturing Engineering from International Islamic University Malaysia. He is an approved trainer for DOSH Initial and Advanced ERA with more than 7 years of experience in Ergonomics. His expertise includes, Ergonomic Assessments for plants and offices, 3D engineering ergonomics design and analysis and work assessments investigation for SOCSO claims.
