INTRODUCTION
In 2023, Malaysia made progress on the Corruption Perceptions Index, rising three places to rank 57th out of 180 countries. Although this improvement is encouraging, significant efforts are still needed to advance the fight against corruption.
Employers and their employees must be well-informed about the Corporate Liability Provision under Section 17A of the MACC Act 2018. This provision holds organizations legally accountable for corrupt practices conducted by associated persons, underscoring the importance of understanding the legal implications and responsibilities it entails.
In addition to grasping the essentials of Corruption Risk Management, employers and their organisations need to be familiar with the Adequate Procedures Principles outlined in Section 17A. These principles specify the steps organizations must take to establish a defense, demonstrating that they have implemented “adequate procedures” to prevent corruption.
The National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) 2024-2028 conference is a key initiative to address the growing need for robust anti-corruption measures in Malaysia. This one-day conference will bring together experts and leaders from various sectors to share insights and strategies for enhancing governance and ethical practices. The focus will be on cultivating a culture of integrity across corporations, businesses and society, in line with NACS 2024 – 2028 that was launched in May this year.
