Notes

1. Average Index

The average Consumer Price Index (CPI) for a particular region in a year. For the current year where the CPI data is incomplete, the average is calculated from January up to the latest month where data is available.

2. Average Increase

The percentage of CPI change between any given year compared to the previous year for a particular region.

Example

Average CPI for Malaysia 115.2 119.5
Formula

Average CPI Increase = Average CPI for 2017 - Average CPI for 2016Average CPI for 2016 × 100%

= 119.5 - 115.2115.2 × 100%

= 3.7%

Conclusion

The Average CPI Increase in 2017 compared to 2016 is 3.7%.

The monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) for a particular region.

3. Increase [same month previous year] (%)

The percentage of CPI change between any given month and the same month a year ago for a particular region.

Formula

Increase [same month previous year] (%) = Index for August 2014 - Index for August 2013Index for August 2013 × 100%

= 110.5 - 107.0107.0 × 100%

= 3.3%

Conclusion

The Consumer Price Index for Malaysia for the month August 2014 increased by 3.3% compared to August 2013.

4. Increase [previous month] (%)

The percentage of CPI change between any given month over the previous month for a particular region.

Formula

Increase [previous month] (%) = Index for August 2014 - Index for July 2014Index for July 2014 × 100%

= 110.5 - 110.3110.3 × 100%

= 0.2%

Conclusion

The Consumer Price Index for Malaysia for August 2014 increased by 0.2% compared to July 2014.
