The Centenary International Labour Conference, opened in Geneva on 10 June 2019. During the Conference nearly 6,000 delegates – representing governments, workers and employers – will discuss transformative changes in the world of work, and will consider the adoption of a landmark ILO Centenary Declaration on the future of work. They will also discuss violence and harassment at the workplace with a view to adopting a new international instrument.
MEF Vice-President En A. Ramadass and MEF Executive Director Datuk Hj Shamsuddin Bardan attend the 108th International Labour Conference (ILC) which is being held on 10 June to 21 June 2019. En A. Ramadass represented MEF as the Employer’s Delegate whilst Datuk Hj Shamsuddin Bardan represented MEF as the Employer’s Adviser and Substitute Delegate. Puan Haslina Bt A Ghani, Head, Industrial Relations, Human Capital Expertise Group Human Resource Management and Puan Farizun Bt A Karim, Manager (Integrity), Industrial Relations, Human Capital Expertise, Group Human Resource Management from Petronas also attend the ILC as employer members.
ILO Director-General Guy Ryder said in his opening address that the world of work is facing the “most profound and transformative” changes seen in 100 years, and has urged delegates to the International Labour Conference (ILC) to take responsibility in addressing this “defining challenge”. The Director-General emphasized that the Centenary ILC was dedicated to the future of work and of the ILO. “This is about tackling the issues that most matter to people, at a moment when they see urgent need for answers and for action, and our collective capacity to provide them is in question. And at a time when people seem to feel the need to take back control of their lives”.
