PETALING JAYA: MEF President Dato’ Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman J.P. has proposed to the government to allow private sector employers to help reach out to the wider public to reduce the spread of Covid-19 through mass vaccination.
“The Government has ordered and paid for the vaccines for all Malaysians. However, getting enough vaccines is one thing but the execution is another matter and a real challenge,” said Dato’ Dr Syed Hussain today.
“MEF and the private sector are ready to assist the government to encourage rapid mass vaccination as it has been seen that mass vaccination had reduced the number of infections in certain foreign countries such as the UK.
“All stakeholders must play a role in reaching out to the public and they must be mobilised as soon as possible and be given the necessary support if needed.
“There is a need to also mobilise private hospitals, public health clinics, district hospitals and mobile all medical vehicles including the armed forces medical units.
“The planning becomes much more difficult as we move out of urban areas where we need to use local experts to reach out.
“We recommend a more comprehensive execution team to make it a success. For instance, Felda, Felcra, Risda and Uda are able to reach the mass settlers in estates and rural areas.
“The government aims to vaccinate as many people as possible but the issue is in execution and we need quick action.
“The stress level of the rakyat is increasing as they don’t understand why it takes so long to secure and deploy the vaccines in order to have herd immunity.
“Having herd immunity will also help reduce the public’s fear of infection which adds to the economic stress faced by many SMEs and entrepreneurs.”
