MEF: Various Initiatives of Government and its Agencies Create More Jobs and Transform Graduates to be More EmployableFriday, 4 March 2022
Press Release

PETALING JAYA: MEF is in full support of the Government’s efforts to reenergise the economy. The efforts of various ministries such as MOF with all its financial support under the JaminKerja, MOHR with its efforts through HRDC to train and retrain, upskill and reskill and various supports from Talent Corporation and PERKESO has make unemployed graduates now more marketable.

MEF President Dato’ Dr. Syed Hussain Syed Husman J.P. stated that “the Ministry of Higher Education with its agencies are working hard to rebrand TVET to be the mainstream education with high rate of employability that has given more options to young Malaysians for their career progression. The untiring efforts of PEMUDAH headed by Dato' Sri Mustapa bin Mohamed the minister in charge of economy to improve various process to facilitate businesses have all play a great part in rebuilding our economy after covid.”

“We in MEF support all initiatives that the government are taking as part of togetherness to build back our economy. We must appreciate and be grateful that the current government has done much for the businesses and the Rakyat despite the limited resources due to covid.”

The three JaminKerja initiatives ie the JaminKerja Hiring Incentive, the Malaysia Short-term Employment Programme (MySTEP) and Training and Skills Development Programmes are targeted to create 600,000 jobs wherein a total of 300,000 job placements will be made under the JaminKerja Hiring Incentives, 22,000 under the Training and Skills Development Programme and 80,000 under MySTEP. To help achieve the target five special task forces will be established to achieve the targets.

Dato’ Dr. Syed Hussain who is a member of the National Employment Council chaired by the YAB PM added further that “the economic recovery and various initiatives to create more job opportunities already shown positive results with 42,166 people finding new employment and 1,200 jobs created up to January 2022. It is important to maintain such momentum to ensure that the objectivesto achieve below 4% unemployment is attained. Achieving 4% and below unemployment is critical as by ILO standard any country with unemployment of 4% and below will be recognized as having full employment”

“It is also important to rebrand some of the jobs and positions to attract locals to fill up the available vacancies. As an example, the position of security guard should be rebranded to Auxiliary Police to uplift the image of the profession and attract locals to fill up the position. The services of foreign security guards then can be phased out in stages”

“The government had done their share. We the businesses must do ours and the Rakyat must abide strictly by the SOPs and good hygiene to control the spread of Covid 19 especially the Omicron variant so as to ensure our economic recovery efforts are fully on tract. Together as Keluarga Malaysia we will succeed”
