MEF Press Release

MEF thanks the YAB PM and the Cabinet for placing the One Stop Centre for foreign workers’ approval under the Ministry of Human ResourcesMonday, 20 June 2022
Press Release

PETALING JAYA: MEF welcomes the recent decision of the government to transfer the one-stop centre for foreign workers’ approval from the Home Ministry to the Human Resources Ministry.

The MEF President Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman, PJN, JP, states that “MEF thanks the YAB PM Dato' Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob and the government for positively responding to MEF’s proposals that the Human Resources Ministry be made as the sole agency in charge of the recruitment and management of foreign workers for greater efficiency. The Ministry of Human Resources will now be able to get all the requirements approved instead of cross-ministry involvements, which previously had wasted too much time on bureaucracy and added costs. MEF hopes that the one stop centre under the MoHR will assist in getting the foreign workers for all sectors of the Malaysian economy our industries on urgent basis.”

“MEF further suggests that the government should establish a special a special desk as a dedicated foreign workers desk to manage any issues related to foreign workers manage this. MEF hopes the government will allocate additional manpower to MoHR to ensure the smooth and efficient operations of the one stop centre. MEF is ever willing to assist in any way to support the success of this. MEF suggests that stakeholders from MEF, FMM and SMEs be invited on advisory basis to assist MoHR on matters related to foreign workers.”

“It is encouraging to note that thus far the Labour Department (JTK) had since approved approximately 230,000 new foreign workers. However, what is critical is for the approved new foreign workers to be brought in to the country as soon as possible to help ease the current critical shortage for foreign workers faced by all sectors of the economy” adds Datuk Dr Syed Hussain.
