Back To History

On 31 December 1977, a pivotal shift occurred when the constituent members of MCEO unanimously agreed to dissolve the Council. This decision led to the transformation of the Malayan Employers' Consultative Association (MECA) into a new organisation called the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF). MEF became the apex employer organisation in Malaysia, representing both individual corporations and employer trade unions. The structural change aimed to reflect a more unified and robust organisation, allowing for greater representation of employers from a broader range of industries. The newly formed MEF continued the legacy of MECA, while also incorporating a stronger organisational framework to support its growing membership.
